I learned some Life Lessons…

While making this Quilt!

Yep its true… quilting can teach you things. Well it taught me a few things anyways…

#1. Ironing is not a suggestion, it’s a Commandment when it comes to quilting and highly recommended for the rest of life too.
#2 Measure, Calculate, Measure, Calculate and Measure some more BEFORE you cut!
#3 After all that measuring and calculating, make sure that your squares are straight! (Ok that is mostly a sewing related lesson… but I am sure there is something practical in there for the rest of life too!)
#4 Before running off with wild ideas, check with friends (and maybe even, oh say, the INTERNET) to see if someone has “been there, done that” and might have some tips to make it easier.
#5 Make sure that your dog doesn’t chew your whiteout bottle, causing, unbeknownst to you, whiteout to get all over your hand. What happens if you then go to, oh I don’t know, put the binding on your quilt and you get whiteout all over the quilt you slaved over for hours? (true freaking story!)
#6 If your Father-in-law is nice enough to fix a squeaky piece of machinery for you, thank him profusely, BUT make sure you check it for oil spots and wipe the heck out of it when you get it home!!

Please don’t look too closely at these pictures… you might just catch some of the many (millions) of errors and mishaps involved in bringing this bit of ghastliness to life! Good thing it was always intended to be mine!
Happy Flipping Monday! :p

Thanks so much for joining in my blog hop. What a beautiful quilt! It's one of my goals in life to make one myself. even though you said yours isn't perfect and all the mishaps you had throughout the process only makes it that much more special. i think it turned out great!-Kristin @ meetmeonthebrightside.blogspot.com

You made me laugh! I would seriously make all your mistakes you talked about and more. I'm too impulsive and not very patient. That doesn't make a very good quilter, does it.

Good points, and good reminders for those starting quilting. I haven't a clue about quilting so great advice for me, if I ever quilt. Thanks for linking to cowgirl up.

When my bestie and I started sewing we kept saying what a dirty secret is it that sewing is all about ironing! Depending on the project there's more ironing than sewing!Your quilt is beautiful!! I love the colors!

I think you did great. I can't get past the buying fabric to make a quilt phase so I'm impressed!
