Here are some of the most common honeymoon disasters that happen on honeymoons and what you can do to try and avoid them.

Your wedding has come and gone, or maybe it’s happening soon and you’re getting ready for your honeymoon. More than 44,230 weddings take place every weekend, and yours is just around the corner. Which means that your honeymoon is just around the corner too.

Around 42% of travelers, or four out of ten of them, feel more romantic on vacation, and your honeymoon is the most romantic vacation you will ever go on. Disaster can seriously drain the romance from the whole trip, though. Here are some of the most common honeymoon disasters that happen on honeymoons and what you can do to try and avoid them.

Your flight gets canceled/delayed

You strategically plan your honeymoon so it lines up with your wedding dates and times you can get off work. If your flights get canceled or delayed, you can lose out on your vacation days, even if you prepaid for an all-inclusive package. What can you do to stop this? You can’t stop mother nature from raining on your flight’s parade, but you can get travel insurance. You’ll then be covered if anything goes wrong with your flights.

A storm comes through

As much as you try to avoid hurricane season, big storms can hit at any time of the year. You could be tanning outside and get hit with a three-day thunderstorm. To avoid this, try to look at the typical weather for your travel dates before you book your honeymoon. After that, keep track of current travel updates for the location you’re traveling too. They can let you know if there is a storm on the watch, a health scare in the area, or anything else unexpected.

You get seriously injured/sick

You’re having fun on your honeymoon, and it would be seriously dampened by an injury or sickness, but it happens. For example, roughly 13.4% of the U.S. population participated in water sports in 2017 alone, and they become even more popular when you’re on a vacation like your honeymoon. If you fall off a boat, get bit by a fish while your scuba diving, or some other kind of disaster, you need to get help. Roughly 21.7%, or one out of five, urgent care centers have more than 450 patient visits per week, but there may not be a convenient medical option on your honeymoon. For peace of mind, research medical care providers near your honeymoon destination.

Your passports get stolen

While this is a rare occurrence, it can still happen. Most airlines allow you to fly domestically without a passport (as long as you have a driver’s license), but if you’re in a foreign country, not having your passport to get home is incredibly problematic. Don’t panic, though. You will need to go to the local embassy immediately to ask about the procedure you need to go through in order to replace your passport. You will also need to file a police report with the local authorities. Carrying extra copies of your passport (simply take a picture with your phone before you leave) and emergency money will certainly help you in a situation like this. You can also utilize the safe in your lodging area to prevent it from being stolen.

You get lost in a foreign city

Very often, couples like to visit a city that they have never been to before for their honeymoon. That’s great, but it’s easier to get lost in a place you’ve never been. If you’re driving or walking around to take in the sights, make sure you pay attention to your surroundings and don’t get distracted. If you do get lost, make sure you have an emergency contact to call back at your hotel or even a friend in the area so you can get back safely.

Here are some of the most common honeymoon disasters that happen on honeymoons and what you can do to try and avoid them.

Your honeymoon is supposed to be one of the best times of your life, but that doesn’t mean it is guaranteed to be free of disaster. Do your best to plan ahead and avoid these things. Above all, remember that life happens and make the best out of a bad situation. After all, if you can make it through a disastrous honeymoon, you can make it through anything as a married couple.
