I love quilting. LOVE it… but what I love even more than making them and snuggling with them is giving them away! Especially when they have extra meaning. And this “All the Hearts Quilt” definitely has extra meaning!
Earlier this spring, I heard the saddening news that a friend and blogging buddy had been diagnosed with breast cancer. I think my heart stopped beating for a moment to tell ya the truth. I was 11 when my Nana was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought cancer off and on for the next 8 years eventually succumbing to this horrible disease. All of the emotions I faced and dealt with as a teenage came flying back in an instant.
And even though I’ve never had the opportunity to meet “Miss P” in person, I knew I had to do something! A quilt seemed like the perfect idea, but I knew I couldn’t do it all on my own and have it done in a timely manner… So I reached out to an amazingly talented quilter friend from instagram, Karie from two kwik quilters, and she helped gather other incredible quilters for this project!
In just a few hours we’d picked a color scheme, a block pattern and had several fantastic quilters on board! I received heart blocks from all over the country for the next few weeks! I had so much fun checking the mail and fawning over the beautiful fabrics and trying to decide which blocks were my favorite.
We used Cluck Cluck Sew’s free heart block pattern and let the lovely ladies decide on the rest! I was sent blocks in all different sizes… at first I was a little worried about making them work together… but with a little finagling, my handy seam ripper and a temporary design wall, I figured it out!
And I have to say, I LOVE the results!
The quilt finished at a good sized lap quilt, which is perfect for Miss P to take with her to chemo treatments and snuggle with on the rough days after treatments.
I was hoping to get this quilt finished and in Miss P’s hands by June, but life sort of intervened and I had to deal with some of my own health challenges. I was able to finally get it finished and on its way last week! Miss P now has it and was quite surprised and thrilled with her All the Hearts Quilt 🙂
I want to take a moment to thank the extraordinary women that helped make this quilt a reality. You are AMAZING and I really appreciate each and everyone of you! MWAH!!!
PS. I still have some heart blocks left… stay tuned to see what I’m going to do with them and how you’ll have a chance to be a part of an opportunity to give back!
