DIY Fizzing Vanilla Peppermint Bath Salts

This post may contain affiliate or brand partner links. Read our full disclosure here.

You might have noticed, but lately I am ALL about the Esential Oils, especially peppermint! They’re just so awesome! And I personally love all of the benefits and uses for peppermint essential oils. As an incredibly busy (and stressed out) Blogger, Virtual Assistant, Handmade Shop Owner, Wife and Fur-Mom (I wear a LOT of hats y’all!), I’ve been making a point of pampering myself, at least a little, whenever I can 🙂 These DIY Fizzing Vanilla Peppermint Bath Salts are just the ticket!

You've got to try these DIY Fizzing Vanilla Peppermint Bath Salts Recipe from BusyBeingJennifer.com!

These  DIY Fizzing Vanilla Peppermint Bath Salts are surprisingly easy to make too! You just need the right ingredients 🙂 And those aren’t hard to find either! I used my Young Living Essential Oils and got the rest at the grocery store or off of amazon (*affiliate links).

DIY Fizzing Vanilla Peppermint Bath Salts Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups of Epsom Salts
1/2 Cup of Baking Soda
1/3 Cup Citric Acid *
20 Drops Vanilla Essential Oil
10 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil
Air Tight Container for Storage *
Gloves for Mixing *

Directions:

In a large glass bowl add each of the ingredients, saving the essential oils for last.

Add in the essential oils. The strength of the peppermint is at least twice as strong as the vanilla, so you’ll need twice as much vanilla as peppermint. I used 10 drops of peppermint and 20ish drops of vanilla (there might have been a few extra drops, i like things sweet 😉 ).

Using your hands (this is where you’ll need the gloves) mix all the ingredients together thoroughly. Its kind of like kneading dough. Without the gloves the citric acid can burn a little, especially if you have any open cuts or scrapes on your hands.

Once all the ingredients are mixed well, transfer your  DIY Fizzing Vanilla Peppermint Bath Salts into an air tight container for storage.

To use simply add a couple of tablespoons to your bath water. All of the benefits of epsom salts, peppermint essential oil and the relaxing sent of vanilla are sure to make it an extra calming and relaxing experience!

Epsom salts and peppermint helped me tremendously when I was pregnant with my daughter. I love that you combine the two of these for an even more relaxing remedy. Thanks so much for sharing this with us on #SHINEbloghop! Happy you were able to join us this week 🙂

I know your recipe (thanks for that, btw!) calls for 1/3 cup of citric acid, but how much is that in ounces or pounds? Because that stuff is sold by the pound, and while I don’t want to have leftover or a partial amount, I also don’t want to buy too little. Thanks in advance!

Oh man. I honestly have no idea. I bought the 2 pound bag I have linked in here and had a BUNCH left over, but I’ve used it for other projects too. you’ll need less than a pound. I know that much. Sorry I can’t be of more help!

According to a comment on Amazon (via a google search), there are 3 cups per pound. Good lord, lol.

How do you prevent your product form yellowing/browning over time?? Anything I use vanilla in and don’t use a stabilizer turns brown. HELP!!!

Are you talking vanilla extract or vanilla essential oil? I used a vanilla essential oil in this recipe. I let me MIL smell what I created and she loved it so much that I had to split the product with her LOL so it got used up very quickly.
