Since Jennifer is participating in 101 Handmade Days and I am soooo craft challenged (I appreciate all of my crafty friends so much, especially when they make me cool stuff), I decided to show you how to make your own exercise equipment. I want to preface this by saying that I don’t make all of my own equipment but if I can I do.
Dumbbells
Dumbbells are a staple in most workouts. They add resistance and help build muscle. If you don’t have any don’t feel like you need to rush out and buy dumbbells you can use soup cans, water bottles, or any other heavy items you have around the house. When I am doing my BIG lifting days I use our 10 gallon water jugs. I don’t get a lot of reps out of them (HELLO, they are heavy!) but I do get a full muscle burnout which is what I’m looking for.
Yoga Straps
Yoga straps are great for getting a deeper stretch. They are also pricey at the store. You just need to hit your local hardware store and buy a length of rope. They will cut it to your specifications, I normally have it cut to three feet. Tie the ends to make a comfortable place to put your hands or feet depending on the stretch and voila, you have a yoga strap!
The World Is Your Workout
Alyssa at www.homefieldfitness.com and fellow Girls Gone Sporty Ambassador likes to use Football Fields and Basketball courts for running stairs, doing dips, and any other fun workout she can come up with. As an added bonus the markers on the field and court are great for marking distances!
