“She’s just a Little Bit” said the Husband, “we’ll take her!” Never have 8 words so rocked my world…

Meet Bitly - the newest member of our little family! - BusyBeingJennifer.com

On Saturday morning we ran some errands in the city, had lunch and I even got Starbucks for the second time in a week! On the way home we drove past a new, little resale shop that opened this week near our house. Hubby spied something he wanted to check out so we pulled in for a quick look. He was checking out the furniture outside and I headed in. The very first things I saw was 3 tiny balls of fur… of course I began to ooohhh and aaahhh over the little puppies. I asked if I could snuggle one and picked up this awkward looking little girl with funny black spots and a white streak running down her nose. She was adorable, but I wasn’t looking for a puppy. So I put her down, and started looking at the rest of the store. Hubs had come in right behind me, saw me get all snuggly with that awkward little pup and unbeknownst to me had picked her up as soon as I had put her down. I vaguely heard him ask what breed they were and how old.

“Pure Rat Terriers”, the lady said, “and they’ll be 8 weeks tomorrow. They’re eating regular kibble and they’re free to a good home”

Meanwhile that awkward little pup had burrowed right into my husbands chest, gave one long sigh, and promptly went to sleep. He looked down at her, looked up at me and said “She’s just a Little Bit… We’ll take her!”

I had just take a swallow of water and almost sprayed it right back out at those words. Once I was done coughing/choking and could speak again, I said “You can’t be serious!”

Well… He was!

Introducing “Bitly” the newest member of our little family!

“Bitly” came about when hubby kept calling her “lil’bit”, while cute, I didn’t love it and since he insisted she’s my dog and I should name her, I decided on Bitly… its a nod to what he wanted and a little bit of blogger fun 🙂 And despite joining a completely unprepared family, she has fit right in 🙂

After a bath and some tick removal, she’s happy as a clam! Even the #monsterkittens have gotten used to her! They weren’t too sure at first, but now they think she’s the perfect toy. LOL

We haven’t had much success with crate training yet and she’s been sleeping in bed with us, BUT she’s only had one tiny piddle accident in the house and already knows what “Outside” and “in the House” means!! She’s a smart little whipper-snapper!

She follows me everywhere, loves to snuggle when she sleeps and is absolutely hilarious when she “plays” with the cats. Its only been 3 days, but I can’t imagine not having her in our lives now!

Welcome to the Family Bitly!!

OMG!!! You are in for the BEST dog in the world!!!! I've had Rat Terriers for the past 20 years and I will NEVER have another breed!!! I can't believe you got her for free!!!! She will be a little bit of a difficulty in training, but once she gets the basics, she'll be eager to learn more!!! She is a high energy dog, and will probably begin to start driving you batty very soon, but take heart, once she gets past her first "cycle" (I STRONGLY suggest that you allow her the 1st cycle – this from EXPERIENCE) she should start to chill out. (Don't let her go beyond the 1st, as each cycle thereafter becomes an risk due to pyrometra.) Otherwise, she will become the absolute love of your life!!! They are usually "long-lived"; one of my originals just past in the past two months at the age of 17 1/2 yrs!!! They are highly intelligent dogs, but they can also become bored quite easily, so invest in interactive toys for her! My experience has been that they are "destroyers" of anything stuffed, so stay away from those toys. I just saw a really great idea for these type dogs, you take one of those new "balls" that are available, the ones that look like they are made by covering over-sized chicken-wire in plastic/rubber. You take one of those, take some fabric scrapes (you'll want to stick with knit fabrics as cottons shred and puppy will swallow threads) and a small treat or two. Wrap the treat(s) in a couple of the scraps, then stuff them into the center of the ball, then fill in behind them with additional scraps, til the inside of the ball is full. Then turn puppy lose on it. It will satisfy her innate desire to "shred" without worry of her swallowing stuffing, beads, etc that might be in ready made stuffed animals. The treats will keep her interested. Have fun and if you have any RT questions specifically you can e-mail me!

Lora!! Thank you so much! I will definitely be sending you an email in the near future! I've never had any type of terrier breed, and I've heard mixed reviews LOL. She's really quite bright and I'm sure she'll be a joy to train once we get some of the basics down 🙂 I'll definitely look into that toy for her!!

OMG! She is absolutely ADORABLE!! I can't believe she wasn't even 8 weeks old and already had ticks? Where DID this woman keep these puppies? Well, she is safe, comfy, and happy now! CONGRATS on your new fur-baby!

Apparently they were outside. Made me sad to pull those suckers off her… and I kind of wanted to go back and get her last sister… hubby talked me out of it. Which is probably a good thing since Bitly is already proving to be a bit of a rascal. LOL

What an adorable pup!! We are going through puppy stages right now. Our Labrabull is 6 months old. Holy moley, is she a handful! Although, thankfully, she's doing better at this time and the patience is starting to pay off. I wish you all the best.
